Gigalight Releases CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing)

Abstract:

Shenzhen, China, November 04, 2009 – Gigalight continue to launch out more new passive components products for fiber optical communication.


The recent release is CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing), Collimator and Isolator, all of them are based on proven ultra low-loss thin-film filter (TFF) technology, and other micro optics manufacturing platform, and Gigalight's highly reliable manufacture expertise.


Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) is the technologyof combining multipleoptical channels (signals) onto a single optical fiber by using different wavelengths (colors) of laser light to carry different signals. This allows for a multiplication in capacity, in addition to enabling bidirectional communications over one strand of fiber.


CWDM technology uses 2002 ITU-standard 20nm spacing between the wavelengths, from 1270nm to 1610nm, since their wavelengths are relatively far apart (compared to DWDM), the transponders, lasers and filters are generally not very expensive.


CWDM is regarded as ideal low cost access solutions for metro network. Its main applications are for CWDM system, PON system and CATV links.
